digiKam Version 2.2.0 Unter KDE 4.7.2 (4.7.2) "release 5" OS: openSUSE 12.1 (i586) Problem: Images are not visible in the Main Image Window of Digikam, if the files are created as relative links. ls -l : lrwxrwxrwx 1 klaus users 50 15. Nov 13:55 drittes_Bild -> ../2012_10_27_Sao_Lourenco/2012-10-27_15-17-54.jpg lrwxrwxrwx 1 klaus users 43 15. Nov 13:53 erstes_bild -> ../2012_10_25_Hinflug/aeroporto_funchal.jpg lrwxrwxrwx 1 klaus users 49 15. Nov 13:50 zweites_Bild -> ../2012_10_26_Porto_Moniz/2012-10-26_14-42-59.jpg If I use absolute links, the image-presentation is OK. Intention/workflow for using relative links: Storing all of the images using the structure: /Year/Journey/YYYY-MM-DD/imagenumber.jpg and for every journey creating one directory with a selection of images: /Year/Journey/selection/link_number.jpg ---> these are relative links to files stored in the YYYY-MM-DD-directories. The selection-image-groups are base for my image-slideshows. Using links instead of copies prevents additional amount of storage and redundancy-free storing. Using relative links instead of absolute links allows to copy the image-collection and included the selection-directories to an external backup/USB-device and then use this copy on a second PC (there either with digiKam or another presentation-software). Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Build one directory with relative links and on with absolute links as part of a structure of images 2.Present these directories in digiKam-Main-Window Actual Results: Presentation is correct using absolute links, but not with relative links Expected Results: DigiKam should present images based on relative links too
Addition: Did a test under openSUSE 12.2 (i586) and Kernel 3.4.6-2.10-default i686 under VirtualBox 4.1.6 DigiKam-Version 2.6.0 KDE 4.8.5 release 2 In this version the presentation of images as relative links is OK, while the presentation of absolute linked images does not work. The behavior of Digikam is quite opposite between versions 2.2.0 and 2.6.0 Because I can do what I want in version 2.6.0, you might close the call. Otherwise: If it is important for you to make some investigations I can do some tests if needed.

Klaus, The digiKam 8.2.0 pre-release for Windows is available for testing : https://files.kde.org/digikam/ Problem still reproducible on your computer ? Thanks in advance Gilles Caulier
Created attachment 162532 [details] test_links_digikam.txt Hello Gilles, Thank you for your message. Unfortunately I haven't followed the development of digikam in the last few years as I have little time for my photos. I don't use MS Windows, but currently openSUSE Leap 15.5 with KDE. To reproduce the error there, I installed digikam version 7.9.0 as a test and created two links via console - relative and absolute (see file test_links_digikam.txt). The photos of these two links are presented correctly in digikam (see screenshot 105.jpg). Therefore, apparently the problem I reported in 2012 no longer exists. I apologise for not following up on my bugreport from back then in the meantime.
