KDE version 4.8.5 supplied with openSUSE 12.2 crashes and offers crash handler for bug reporting. Backtrace is available but the reporting system cannot be used as it depends upon kded running to submit the file. The crash is always repeatable but the trace seems rather short (pasted below) java.lang.IllegalThreadStateException at java.lang.ThreadGroup.add(ThreadGroup.java:856) at java.lang.Thread.start(Thread.java:573) at java.lang.Shutdown.runHooks(Shutdown.java:128) at java.lang.Shutdown.sequence(Shutdown.java:173) at java.lang.Shutdown.exit(Shutdown.java:218) at java.lang.Runtime.exit(Runtime.java:90) at java.lang.System.exit(System.java:869) at sun.plugin.navig.motif.Plugin.doit(Plugin.java:178) at sun.plugin.navig.motif.Plugin.start(Plugin.java:104) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot machine KDM prompts 2.Login as a user 3.Crash occurs after the last iconn of the KDE start-up splash has been displayed before most services have begun.
Further information: Executable: kdeinit4 PID: 1644 Signal: Segmentation fault (11) Error seems to occur as the KDE Daemon brings up the KDE Wallet widget to request the users wallet password. Please update Plasma Network Manager to 0.9.0.3. If this does not fix the issue, please add a comment. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 300113 ***
It seems openSUSE 12.2 is shipping with Network manager 0.9.0.2 so I will post a bug on the SUSE bugs with this info. Many thanks - David C On 7 November 2012 23:08, Christoph Feck <christoph@maxiom.de> wrote: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=309719 > > Christoph Feck <christoph@maxiom.de> changed: > > What |Removed |Added > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Status|UNCONFIRMED |RESOLVED > Resolution|--- |DUPLICATE > > --- Comment #2 from Christoph Feck <christoph@maxiom.de> --- > Please update Plasma Network Manager to 0.9.0.3. It's probably better to ask in an openSUSE forum, how to install the KDE 4.9.3 release, together with updated KDE applications. From what I can see, the openSUSE KDE:Release:49 repositories already have version 0.9.0.5 of the Plasma NM.
Thanks for the assistance. As you advised I am taking the approach of installing KDE 4.9.3 and posting in the SUSE forums to encourage adoption of the newer release. David C
This is resolved in OpenSUSE 12.2 by moving on to KDE4.9
