Description Julius Schwartzenberg 2012-10-23 18:28:54 UTC
When people send me messages only a short notification is displayed. This notification disappears then and it's impossible to see that someone has written me. No window or tab is openend, nothing is visiable either in the contact list.

There should be a way to quickly see that someone sent a message in the past.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, I believe you mean when the text-ui is open and a contact that already has a tab sends you a message?
When you don't have an open tab for that contact, you should have a blinking icon in the tray area...

Thanks for your quick reponse. There was no tab open yet and I also did not have a blinking icon in my tray area. Could it be a bug with my version of KDE? I'm using Kubuntu 12.10 without any special repositories.

It indeed seems something appears, the first couple of times there is indeed a visible icon, but after a while this icon is invisible, there is just an empty spot. When I then click this spot, the received messages appear!

So it seems that the problem is that this icon while there, is somehow invisible...

Then I think there is something wrong with your setup then, sorry...
Try reporting this problem to kubuntu developers...
Comment 5 Martin Klapetek 2012-10-25 11:17:05 UTC
I can confirm this, I'm seeing it quite a lot. But I'm unsure how to fix it. I even showed it to plasma developers, they had no idea what may be wrong. I don't think we're doing anything wrong as we're using the standard KStatusNotifier item. However it might still be worth rechecking the code...

I'm reopening it as a reminder to check the approver's KSNI code.
Comment 6 Daniele E. Domenichelli 2012-10-25 12:07:50 UTC
Nonetheless I believe it's not ktp-related, perhaps it should be changed to product=plasma component=widget-systemtray

Have a look at [1] there are several other reports of invisible icons... and by the way I have a similar problem with kgpg.

I haven't seen this happening since the new QML systray in KDE 4.10. Please reopen if it still happens for you.
