Prefer to not use Nvidia drivers because is too hard to configure. Do not understand what I am doing. When you are on the spot in a presentation, it hard to manipulate the nvidia options. There needs to be a low level override that simply duplicates laptop display onto a projector. It is almost impossible to say what the make and model of the target projector is before the time, thus one is faced with doing this set up minutes before it is required. For anyone who speaks at conferences, uses a projector at meetings or training sessions, and so on this is not only embarrassing but a show stopper given that there is no time to fiddle with settings. I never had this problem when I was using Ubuntu 11.04, but have hit a wall with Kubuntu 12.04. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. connect external projector 2. open system settings 3. select displays & monitors 4. choose "unify outputs" Actual Results: Kubuntu does not "see" the projector, or (happened once) the projector displays at incorrect resolution, flashes display / no connection, until it gives up. CPU runs at 100%. Expected Results: adjust laptop display to resolution of projector (external display) seamlessly. Show simultaneously on laptop display and projector. Ideally, there should be an applet that can be used to force display management, to use if all else fails. Even if one inputs the target resolution and then forces the laptop display to mimic it.
This seemed to stem from when I ran a task from konsole using sudo instead of kdesudo. After that, my system would no longer shut down using menu items and so on. (Surely this can be prevented - I had no idea of this rule.) After reinstalling kubuntu 12.04, the problem was resolved - I can now shut down as normal, my laptop sees external monitors, and so on. But, the reinstall was not seamless. Broadcom drivers were not installed and I had to download them first using a cable connection.
Thanks for reporting your bug. Since reporting Krandr has since been replaced by KScreen. It is available in the Plasma 4 series, and is default in Plasma 5 onwards. I hope this solves your issue. If you still have a problem after upgrading please reopen a new bug under kscreen. Thanks
