Description Mathieu MD 2012-10-14 11:45:27 UTC
No matter how I change the margin values in Print > Printer Properties, they are not saved after actually printing. Even for the same document in the same session.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Ctrl+P to open the printing popup;
2. Click on the button "Properties" next to the selected printer;
3. Modify the margins like this:
BEFORE: 14.82 / 3.18 / 3.18 / 11.99
AFTER: 3.18 / 3.18 / 3.18 / 3.18
4. Click "Ok";
5. Click on "Print";
6. Re-open the printing popup;
7. Click "Properties"
Actual Results:
The margins are set back to 14.82 / 3.18 / 3.18 / 11.99

Expected Results:
The margins should still be 3.18 / 3.18 / 3.18 / 3.18

More generally than this it would be useful to be able to save print settings for later use.

For instance printing articles with two pages per sheet, but okular never remembers this, so if one wants to print double sided (by printing the odd pages then the even pages), the second time around one has to remember to tell okular again to print two pages per sheet. It would be very handy if okular remembered the last used settings. It would be even better to have print profiles, storing different settings used for different purposes.

Duplicate of bug 198172?
Comment 3 Albert Astals Cid 2013-11-17 22:03:41 UTC
Yes and no, there's not really such a thing as a kdelibs print dialog anymore, well there is but it's a very thin wrapper on top of the qt one, this would need a quite deep investigation on wheter if you save it cross app or not, etc.

Okular printer settings persistance

The patch file by itself was created by quilt, from the debian/ubuntu package (4.13.0).

This is a temporary workaround, as it looks like the scope of the scope of issue is not okular, but KDE *and* QT.

Please use http://reviewboard.kde.org/ for patches, it's much easier to discuss them there.
Comment 6 Oliver Sander 2014-05-21 09:44:00 UTC
I extended the patch from Comment 4 to additionally store the printer duplex mode.

The new patch is now on reviewboard: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/118236/

Looking forward to your comments.

Thanks Oliver

I've updated my ubuntu and that broke the patch, as expected. However, the patch is still applicable to the upstream source, thought you may have to move some files to the "conf" directory. The patch won't come upstream, as it is considered fragile.

To Albert : you may see https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/118236/ and get your own conclusions about the usefulness of posting to the review board. That's for KDE developers and certainly not for KDE users.
Comment 8 Albert Astals Cid 2014-08-11 18:49:53 UTC
Bruno, please submit the patch yourself, there's a lot of things that need to be improved before it can be added to Okular and if you don't submit it to reviewboard this is not going to work as you won't see the comments.
Comment 9 Miran B 2014-10-04 04:27:55 UTC
I suggest renaming the issue from "print margins are not saved" to "print settings are not saved".
Comment 10 konenas 2016-09-20 11:28:46 UTC
Problem still exists
It would be better to delete all margins than to set default ones

Running Linux Mint 18 KDE now (Kubuntu 16.04) and Okular still does not save print settings (e.g. multiple pages and margins and stuff).

Is this a duplicate of Bug 198172?
