Description George Dvorak 2012-10-06 05:34:03 UTC
Searching for files owned by root. Finds files owned by others, some were previously owned by root but had been changed.

I rebooted but the results did not change.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Select a starting directory.
2.Select tab advanced and check Search for user. root is default.
3.Check selected files. Most are not owned by root,
This is Krusader - root-mode!
Actual Results:
Files not owned by root.

Expected Results:
Only files owned by root.
Comment 1 Jan Lepper 2012-10-06 12:09:40 UTC
I couldn't reproduce your described behaviour on 2.4.0-beta1.
Search finds only files which are owned by root.
But I noticed a different misbehaviour:
The owner is displayed incorrectly in the search result view (it is always displayed as root).
After 'feed to listbox' the user is displayed correctly in the list panel.
Is it possible that you meant to describe this misbehaviour ?

NO! I use Krusader for searching then use Dolphin for other file work. In
this case I had some files in /home/gld/.kde/ that were marked owned by
root that I wanted owned by gld. I searched, I thought successfully, and
used Dolphin to make the change. Then I searched with Krusader again
because I was quite sure that I had missed some. But I quickly saw that
some that I had changed were still coming up. I double checked in Dolphin
and indeed I had made the change.

I rebooted, eventually twice, and kept getting the same files.

Krusader is my tool for most file searches, I use dolphin only for
searching in the folder where I know the file exists. I then use Dolphin
for all of my other work with files.

What would you suggest that I try? A new install of Krusader, maybe?

This is getting weird!
1. Search for owner root
2. Select a file which is a link and the owner is gld.
3. sudo dolphin
4. change owner to bin
5. Now the owner will be root and it cannot be set back to gld

I believe their are other scenarios but I haven't found them yet.

I do not know much about links. Am I missing something obvious?

Yet another bit of information--before step 4 back up one level and check
Apply changes to all subfolders and their contents.
Then change the user and change it back to gld. Viola, what did not work in
step 4 above now does work.

Does this make sense to anyone? If so please enlighten me.

Thanks.

I couldn't produce that either, for me Dolphin and Krusader cannot
change the owner of a symlink at all (that might be intended, as
ownership of symlinks is ignored by the system anyway - instead the
ownership of the linked file is used).
