when launching dolphin, I get the error:Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken..
Well, this looks more like trouble shooting than bug report. Does the problem persist after relogin or reboot ? Is there any speical place in the place panel ?
wait for information requested in comment #1
It happens sporadically, maybe once every 5 boots on average, and I do not know what you are asking about the place panel.
Hm, this looks indeed more like a problem with the setup on your system rather than a Dolphin bug. I have no clue what the problem might be, but I think that http://forum.kde.org/ is a place where you are much more likely to find advice on this subject.
I can confirm this bug on KDE 4.9.1 It happens sometimes. As original reporter said "once every 5 boots on average" This message appears after login and session restore, on *some* dolphin tabs, that are restored. No directory content shown in the dolphin view. If i refresh the tab - the content appears normally. Along with this bug i noticed that some applications aren't restored with the session (Namely Klipper, Psi+, GXNeur). This maybe related, and also happens sometimes. My system: openSUSE 12.1, KDE SC 4.9.1
Created attachment 75082 [details] the KDE error
Confirming this bug against KDE 4.9.2. It happens @ KDE startup, like 2 times out of 10... Please see the attached screenshot ! KDE is set up to always start with a empty session (ie don't use session restore on login). # ll /usr/share/autostart/ -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 11783 Sep 28 03:14 klipper.desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2321 Sep 28 03:44 kmix_autostart.desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 2957 Sep 28 03:14 krunner.desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5690 Sep 28 03:43 nepomukserver.desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 3782 Sep 28 03:14 plasma-desktop.desktop -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 904 Jan 15 2012 polkit-kde-authentication-agent-1.desktop # yum list installed systemd systemd.x86_64 44-17.fc17
Thanks for the update. The screenshot shows the FolderView plasmoid with the error message, so it should be pretty clear that this is not a Dolphin bug. I'll reassign to klauncher in the hope that someone who has more knowledge about it than me has a look at this report.
I see this error occasionally when launching Dolphin, it can also occur when I open a text or image file from within Dolphin - the default applications (Kate and Gwenview) launch but then become unresponsive for a short while. This is not new to 4.9, I've been experiencing this for some time, it's not consistent and I have been unable to notice a pattern.
I get that error every once in a while (most recently 4.10.4), most often when opening a text file in dolphin with kate. No systemd involved on this system.
