I have set up the desktop as a folder view in "unsorted" mode. When I change the desktop font, the symbols on the desktop get reordered so that they are all lined up on the left, which is annoying (interestingly, there are some fonts where changing between them does not have this effect). Not that I change the desktop font too often, but the same reordering happens sometimes after updating some KDE components. From time to time, this even happens without user action after login (though not as frequently as in previous KDE versions). Generally, when the user explicitly sets the position of a symbol in a folder view, KDE should never touch that position. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: Set desktop to folder view, no sorting, and put some icons on the desktop. Then change the desktop font. Actual Results: The icons on the desktop are reordered. Expected Results: The icons stay on the positions where I put them.
Part 1 is a duplicate of bug #182712. Part 2 (random icon reordering) is a duplicate of bug #265774, which is now marked as fixed in 4.8.5 (and hence in 4.9.*). Please test carefully with 4.9.1 and report at the 265774 bug page if it still occurs with 4.9.1. The user who had been experiencing the issue for a long time says it is not occurring any ore for him in 4.8.5, so we have closed the report as fixed. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 182712 ***
