Description ktrieu 2012-08-26 12:39:58 UTC
Running Ubuntu 12.04 x86, but I've had this problem since 11.04. Always running latest KTorrent version (currently 4.1.3). It is not a major problem, but can be irritating.

On first startup, everything works fine. Right-clicking torrents causes context menus to show up, the configure KTorrent window works. However, after closing that window/context menu/etc. and then minimizing and subsequently restoring the window, anything that was opened before no longer opens properly. Anything that was not opened before is still fine.

When right-clicking for a context menu, the GUI seems to recognize that the user is trying to open a context menu and behaves as if one did open. It highlights the torrent, and then clicking empty white space one keeps the torrent highlighted (as if the user just closed the context menu), and then deselects the torrent after a second click.

The problem persists until KTorrent is fully closed (not just the window). A fresh start restores everything.

Note: This problem does not occur if the user closes the KTorrent window instead of minimizing. At the same time, the problem persists if the user only closes the window.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start up KTorrent. Open the Configure KTorrent dialog box, or right-click a torrent to bring up a context menu.
2. Close the dialog box or context menu. I use the Cancel button for the settings dialog, but I don't think it should make a difference.
3. Minimize KTorrent to the task bar (don't close the window). Restore it. Try to open the Configure window or context menu again.
Actual Results:
If the Configure KTorrent window was opened before minimizing, it will not open anymore. If a torrent was right-clicked and the context menu shown, doing so will not open the context menu after minimizing and restoring.

Expected Results:
The Configure KTorrent window and any context menus should show up as per normal.

I started with Ubuntu 11.04 on this computer and have upgraded through 11.10 and now 12.04. The problem has been persistent throughout.

There is no special configuration that I'm using, and there are no proprietary drivers installed. It is just the default Ubuntu installation with the Unity desktop.

I have a lot of background programs running but I don't think they should be causing the problem.

CPU/Graphics: Intel i5 2400 with HD Graphics 3000.

Is something like keep above others set for the ktorrent window?
Comment 2 ktrieu 2012-08-27 21:44:17 UTC
I don't think so. Is there a setting like that? I can't find it. But regardless, I can keep the window open and type this message at the same time, and both KTorrent and Chromium are maximized, so it's not likely.

Are you unable to reproduce the problem?

It only happens under unity, not in KDE.

So most likely a unity bug
Comment 4 ktrieu 2012-09-18 23:48:31 UTC
That is very likely. At the same time, I wonder if there is a way to code around this bug. As far as I can tell, KTorrent is the only application I use that has this problem. There are other minor display bugs as well, but they are not nearly as annoying as these.

KTorrent doesn't do anything special to show a menu or a dialog, it uses the standard Qt way of doing that.
Comment 6 ktrieu 2012-09-24 07:50:27 UTC
Hmm, that's really weird. Do you think I should report this bug elsewhere?
Comment 7 Joris Guisson 2012-09-24 08:38:07 UTC
The unity people will probably have a bugtracker, I would report it there.

Alright, done. It has been reported at:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ktorrent/+bug/1058032

Feel free to check back on it once in a while.

I admit it is not a Unity-dedicated bug tracker, but at least it is Ubuntu.
