Description Janek Bevendorff 2012-08-18 11:22:33 UTC
In KDE 4.9.0 the KMail main window doesn't remember its size anymore and therefore always starts at a very small default size.
This is not only annyoing because the window always has to be resized after starting the program, it also shrinks the columns for the message list accordingly which have to be expanded again every time.

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Sebastien Renard 2012-08-18 11:32:02 UTC
Note that this bug is a regression for KDE 4.9.0. It was ok with 4.8.4
Comment 2 Thomas Pfeiffer 2012-08-18 12:07:40 UTC
I cannot reproduce the bug here with KDE SC 4.9. Kmail (neither when started seperately nor when started with Kontact). It remembers the window size as well as the column widths and splitter position.

Comment from the KDE usability team:
However, if it can be reproduced by others, it is a bug that has to be fixed, also from a usability standpoint. There is no reason for not remembering the window geometry for Kmail or Kontact.
Comment 3 Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf 2012-11-29 00:32:57 UTC
I can't reproduce the bug either, using KDE 4.9.3.

@Janek, Sebastien:
Can you still reproduce the behaviour on later versions?
If yes: Did it appear right after updating KDE to 4.9?
Comment 4 Sebastien Renard 2012-11-29 08:37:42 UTC
I was ok with 4.8. 4 and it is ok with 4.9.3. This bug can be closed IMHO.
Comment 5 Laurent Montel 2012-11-29 09:07:29 UTC
Ok I close it
Comment 6 Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf 2012-11-29 10:37:19 UTC
@Sebastien, Janek:
1) At the time you experienced this bug, did you open kmail via kontact, or directly, or did you try both?
2) Did you update to KDE 4.93 or did you do a reinstall after KDE 4.9?
3) Do you remember any major configuration changes you did in the meantime, that might have apparently fixed the bug?

@Laurent: This bug obviously occured only in specific circumstances, so I'm not sure it's fixed. I couldn't find a commit tackling this. Maybe you remember?
Otherwise this could be connected to the still unresolved kdelibs Bug #214325
Comment 7 Bernd Oliver Sünderhauf 2012-11-29 10:48:14 UTC
Adding Christoph Feck as he was involved in the discussions on Bug #214325.
He might possibly know.

@Bernd Sorry for not having answered earlier.
The bug was discovered during a KMail bughunting weekend. It was one of many glitches we found. Normally I'm not using KMail as my mail client.

I did indeed upgrade from 4.8.x to 4.9. no clean-install and I had this bug on Sabayon Linux.
Now I'm using Chakra Linux with KDE 4.9.3 and can't reproduce the issue either (although the profile folder is the same I was using before on Sabayon and KDE 4.9.0).
