Description Gernot Wieprecht 2012-08-04 11:19:37 UTC
The folder panel always shows the whole file system tree. For some users that is too much, either confusing or unnecessary (as unprivileged user you cannot and should not use those folders). It would be great if there would either be an additional panel only showing the folders in the user's home/all home folders or if the panel could be configured to either show the whole tree or only a specific part of it (all home folders/only current user's home folder).

Reproducible: Always

In addition to "confusing or unnecessary":

When the panel would show only the user's home or alternatively all users home folders the panel also wouldn't need to be that wide to avoid a horizontal scrollbar. By now with the system tree panel the relevant (needed/allowed) folders begin in the middle of the width of the panel.

Because now the icons in the places panel are smaller (before they had at least 64 size here) I like to shrink the panel width because a wide panel does not look good with so much blank space at the right side of the icons (for others probably: space can be used better). But I also have the folder tree in a second panel below the places panel and that panel needs to be wider than the places panel because of all tree folders. If only the user folders would be shown the panel needn't be that wide and would better fit with the places panel.

Thanks for the report! Something quite similar has been reported earlier, I'll mark this as a duplicate.
