What's the url of the packages you installed? The last time I checked the Ubuntu's package for Plasma Active are a bit old, maybe this problem has already been fixed.

I install the version in the ubuntu 12.04 repository
version of most of the packages are 2.0+git2012021101-0ubuntu4~ppa3
Comment 3 Lamarque V. Souza 2012-07-24 16:49:02 UTC
those packages are more than four months old. I can see at least one commit in plasma-mobile repository that fixes a crash in code related to adding widgets. Can you check if you can reproduce this crash using Kubuntu's live CD? http://community.kde.org/Plasma/Active/Installation#Kubuntu_Active

Waiting for confirmation if this bug still exists with current Kubuntu Active
