Instead we could store the UID, which we can match on retrieval again.

Action:
import vcard file from old kde 3.5.10

Result :
contacts are correctly imported, contacts categories are correctly imported
distribution lists are imported as contacts with contacts id stored in custom fields

This has been fixed in 4.12
