Description Oliver Maurhart 2012-07-11 08:07:40 UTC
Importing mails from Thunderbird to KMail does work ... to some extend.

Having a Local Account folder declared as import destination for the Thunderbird Import function does import all Thunderbird emails! Hurray!

But these emails are NOT stored within ~/.local/share/local-mail but only in the Akondadi DB (~/.local/share/akonadi).

Is this intended? Why can't I have my imported emails there. Isn't it true that ~/.local/share/local-mail should hold all my Local Account mails in a maildir structure?

Well, this is not the case then.

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
Imported mails are mails like any other and should therefore reside in the Local Account place (~/.local/share/local-mail) like any other.

?????
it's imported in maildir
You see it in tree view ?
So it's stored in .local/share/local-mail/.<subfolder>

No they are not.

I've imported about 15000 mails. And I see all of these in KMail.

But:
$ find .local/share/local-mail/ -type f | wc -l
5

I'm missing 14995 mails, then. There are nor there.

But:
$ du -hs .local/share/akonadi/
1.7G    .local/share/akonadi/
... which pretty good reflect around 15000 mails.

Ah, I've tried to import mails into a remote IMAP server.

Same.

The local akonadi cache DB is flooded, but the remote IMAP server remains empty. There is nothing put there.

Also: on my network monitor network traffic stays low.

So I canceled the import process. Now KMail shows me some mails on the remote server, which are not there ...

Just checked with a webmailer: nope. No emails. Though the "Thunderbird-Import" folder is present, but empty.

Man! Just got an important email and I can't open it!

KMail shows me 3 unread emails on one of my IMAP accounts, I click them and KMail sticks on "Retrieving Folder Contents - Please wait ..." for already 5 minuets now! CPU is about 0%. What is KMail/Akonadi waiting for?

This totally unusable!

KMail1 has been one of the best tools every but Akonadi totally ruined it! This is frustrating.

This is just one of a series of problems with KMail2/Akonadi.

Giving up.

As in my case I have high potential of loosing data, Akonadi/KMail is no option. Not even for testing. I treat this as highly experimental. It does not work.

Jesus, I could cry! I loved KMail1 but it's dead. Gone.

This bug has only been reported for versions older than KDEPIM 4.14 (at most akonadi-1.3). Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a recent version of akonadi (part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
