Description snelpost25 2012-07-10 09:57:31 UTC
After installation of Kalarm 4.8.4 (in Ubuntu 12.04) and a reboot, Kalarm did'nt start, so i made an item in startup-programs with: kalarm --tray &
This worked, but when i close the system i get the message that there is still an actif program. When i click then on "restart/close anyway" nothing happens and thereafter i can close the system.

After you first installed it, did you run KAlarm before rebooting? It will only start automatically once it has already been run (whether that version or a previous version).

If you save your sessions so that applications get reinstated as they were after logging in, the correct command to start KAlarm automatically at login is 'kalarmautostart --tray' (see the INSTALL file which should be part of the KAlarm package). Otherwise, KAlarm might not appear as it did before logging out.

When you log off, how do you know that KAlarm is responsible for the active program message? (Please quote the message in full if that mentions KAlarm.)

I removed Kalarm completely (with Synaptic). Herafter, when closing Ubuntu, i still got the message that there was still a program running and after clicking on "close anyway" and closing Ubuntu a second time i could close Ubuntu. Thereafter i could start and close Ubuntu without any problem.

Hereafter i installed Kalarm again. Clicking on Kalarm in the menu (created during installation), i could start Kalarm and then an icon came in the systemtray. However after a reboot the icon was not present. So i tried with a starter at login: "kalarmautostart --tray" without succes. Only with "kalarm --tray" i got the icon back.

But once i opened Kalarm, either with the normal menu-item or the autostart i get the problem that it is not possible to close Ubuntu in a normal way.
So i think the problem is only due to Kalarm

Are you running the Unity desktop, or if not, which one?

I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with "gnome-session-fallback" = Gnome Classic - no effects

This bug has also been reported on Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 running Unity, on AMD64 systems.

Can you please report this as a bug against Ubuntu. There haven't so far been any reports about this happening on other distros, so it could well be due to the way that Ubuntu has been configured or built. If you open a Ubuntu bug, please note its URL here also.

I was suffering the same problem in Ubuntu 12.04 both in Unity and Gnome Desktops, so I tried to look for the source and even if you can close kalarm correctly the nepomuk and akonadi servers continue to run in the background.

After exiting kalarm if you kill manually akonadi and nepomukserver then you can close the unity/gnome session in Ubuntu 12.04 without errors.

Was the bug reported to Ubuntu? I could not find it in launchpad.

I missed it initially but it is actually reported in in launchpad:

Marking as fixed, since it isn't a KAlarm bug, but instead is an Ubuntu problem with Nepomuk - see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-session/+bug/1053783.
