It's supposed to save the background image of the theme selected for the background of the slides, LibreOffice do this correctly and Calligra Stage it's able to see it, but when Calligra create it the background image it's not saved in the document, so if you send this to other guy, they are not able to see the background image and have a background like the image attached. Thanks for your bugreport. Please attach a document you created in calligra stage that does not show in libre office so we can investigate your problem. Without a test document it is quite hard for us to see the exact problem you are facing.

Well, as far as i know when we talked on the IRC channel, the problem was something of SVG.
The problem is that calligra uses a gradient as background which seems to be not yet supported by 00/LO. Also it seams like OO/LO has a problem rendering the path in the file. Some path of the backgrounds are supported but not all. Please report the problems to 00/LO.
