Description Andrew Wasielewski 2012-06-27 22:37:38 UTC
I am running an AMD FX-6100 CPU in a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 m/b. This has a "fam15h_power" CPU power sensor which is detected by lm_sensors and displays output with "sensors" CLI command. However is doesn't appear in the Ksysguard sensor browser.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Ksysguard and go to sensor browser
2.Look for "fam15h_power"
3.It isn't there...
Actual Results:
fam15h_power sensor not available in sensor browser

Expected Results:
fam15h_power available in sensor browser, along with other h/w sensors provided by lm_sensors.

Ran "kdebugdialog" and enabled all areas, then started Ksysguard from shell - no relevant error messages, but fam15h_power still not shown in sensor browser. I am assuming the Fedora Ksysguard package is compiled with lm_sensors support, as other sensors controlled by lm_sensors (k10temp, nouveau and it8728 in my case) are available.

See KDE forum post in URL above for additional discussion and command output.

Dear Bug Submitter,

This bug has been stagnant for a long time. Could you help us out and re-test if the bug is valid in the latest version? I am setting the status to NEEDSINFO pending your response, please change the Status back to REPORTED when you respond.

Thank you for helping us make KDE software even better for everyone!

I just tested it with ksysguard 5.13.5 and AMD FX-8370E.

Sensors show fam15h_power module loaded:

fam15h_power-pci-00c4
Adapter: PCI adapter
power1: 32.93 W (crit = 94.84 W)

However I don't see any way to access it from ksysguard. It is not listed in CPU related sensors nor in hardware sensors section.

I can reproduce this on Gentoo using an Opteron 6380. Yes, I've compiled kSysGuard with lm_sensor support.

When manually add "lmsensors/fam15h_power-pci-00c4/power1" (i.e. editing the corresponding sgrd file), the sensor read results in error and I can see the following repeatedly in the output:

libksysguard: Received UNKNOWN COMMAND for: "lmsensors/fam15h_power-pci-00c4/power1?"
libksysguard: Received UNKNOWN COMMAND for: "lmsensors/fam15h_power-pci-00c4/power1"
libksysguard: Received UNKNOWN COMMAND for: "lmsensors/fam15h_power-pci-00c4/power1"
libksysguard: Received UNKNOWN COMMAND for: "lmsensors/fam15h_power-pci-00c4/power1"
libksysguard: Received UNKNOWN COMMAND for: "lmsensors/fam15h_power-pci-00c4/power1"
libksysguard: Received UNKNOWN COMMAND for: "lmsensors/fam15h_power-pci-00c4/power1"
...

Interestingly the first line ends with a question mark.

Attached a file describing my environment, maybe helps, but I don't think so.

Thanks for the update!
Comment 6 Richard Llom 2018-12-17 19:55:27 UTC
This seems to apply to any power sensor. My AMDGPU power sensor, also doesn't show up in ksysguard:
amdgpu-pci-0100
Adapter: PCI adapter
vddgfx: +0.85 V
FAN_GPU: 735 RPM
GPU: +40.0°C (crit = +89.0°C, hyst = -273.1°C)
POWER: 10.21 W (cap = 150.00 W)

It looks like sometimes my `radeon-pci-0200` errors out, but `k10temp-pci-00xx` works always as excepted. I can't find a way to reproduce the radeon sensor issue.

This bug might actually be a wish / feature request.

@Christoph:
Can you change the title to:
Power sensors are not available in ksysguard
(or something like that)
Comment 9 Christoph Feck 2019-03-11 11:35:56 UTC
Richard, I granted you more permissions in bugzilla. Please also set your full name in bugzilla if you are closing bugs.
Comment 10 Richard Llom 2019-03-11 11:52:02 UTC
Christoph, thanks and done.

ksysguard is no longer maintained, in Plasma 6 there is the Plasma system monitor for this task.

If your issue still happens with the Plasma 6 replacement, please re-open and we can move this bug to the new product, thanks!
