When I starting the kde session, I can see a lot of akonadi_agent_launcher process, and that make my computer out of usage, and load > 15 until it's freeze... I also have this issue KDE 4.8.5 Kubuntu 12.04. When I run Kmail or Kalarm multiple processes (like 15-20) of akonadi_agent_launcher are running and consume all CPU. When you google akonadi_agent_launcher there is a lot of examples of users reporting this issue.
Perhaps this might be a duplicate of this bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278332 I think it's time to change status to confirmed :)
I followed the workaround from above linked bug and deleted all enties in System settings → Personal information (where Akonadi configuration is) and restarted akonadi and now it is working ok.
This bug has only been reported for versions older than KDEPIM 4.14 (at most akonadi-1.3). Can anyone tell if this bug still present? If noone confirms this bug for a recent version of akonadi (part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
