Description 2012-06-23 18:51:45 UTC
Theres too much noise in audio/video calls in kde-telepathy, the noise only starts disappearing in i move the volume of ktp stream in pavucontrol to less than 20%, this applies to outgoing and incoming calls.
Comment 1 George Kiagiadakis 2012-06-23 19:14:25 UTC
Well, as far as I know, it is perfectly normal for microphones to generate noise when set on high volume, especially if the electric ground is not very stable or if the mic is on a surface where there is also a fan (laptops) or something else generating noise. To get rid of it, you *should* really keep the microphone input volume as low as possible. There is no magic trick to remove noise. The only thing that one could do from software is to detect when there is noise and lower the volume automatically, like skype does.

Therefore, I am reducing this bug to a wishlist item. Maybe we can implement this at some point, but it needs someone with knowledge of audio analysis algorithms.
Comment 2 George Kiagiadakis 2012-06-23 19:22:10 UTC
Hm, maybe this also has to do with the selected audio codec, but this is not something that we control. Farstream chooses the best codec possible automatically. But if you have gst-plugins-good installed and you call ktp <-> ktp, it should use speex, which is the best choice possible.
Comment 3 David Edmundson 2013-03-11 13:40:19 UTC
Zé: Have you installed gst-plugins-good?
