Description Reartes Guillermo 2012-06-22 16:58:03 UTC
In the example, i have a konsole and a firefox window. But firefox seems enough to reproduce it.

When firefox in on the desktop, if i open the weather station config dialog and close it, it space in the panel (taskbar) becomes empty, that is ok, exept it is at the oposite side... so a "task hole" is created until a new task/window shifts everithing to fill the "void".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open firefox

method #1:
2A: maximize it. CTRL+F12, select the weather station, open the options dialog and close it.

method #2:
2B: do not maximize it, select the weather station, open the options dialog and close it.

3. The firefox position in the panel becomes pseudo-centered until a new windows shifts it to the left.

the weather station is not requiered to reproduce the issue.
It happens also in F16, i do not use any desktop widget there and i also experience
these 'task holes'.

Which is what exact KDE version?
Comment 5 Reartes Guillermo 2012-10-17 17:20:25 UTC
After quite some time i experienced it with 4.9.2

I closed a window (i am not sue what, it took me by surprise).
But Firefox was the next program right to the resulting 'task hole'

whatever its it is less frequent in the 4.9.xx series.

Thank you for the feedback.

Steps to reproduce (100% reproducible):

KDE: 4.9.3

1. Launch 'konsole' or 'xterm'
2. Launch 'firefox'
3. Launch 'libreoffice-writer'
4. Close 'libreoffice-wrirer'

I cannot reproduce using the steps from comment #7 with a freshly created user account, which means they are either imprecise, or your configuration is different.

Which applications are in the taskbar before step 1? How do you lauch the applications? How long or for what event do you wait before proceeding with the next step?
Comment 9 Reartes Guillermo 2012-11-24 21:14:55 UTC
I tried on another machine (host B) and i could not reproduce it at first. I added the weather station and then i could reproduce it. (with the same steps). I removed the weather station and the issue was gone.

On Host A i tried removing the weather station, moon phase and the dictionary but the issue could still be reproduced. I was not able to stop being capable of reproducing it on Host A.

0. Boot and login. Note: All programs are launched with ALT+F2
1. Launch 'konsole' or 'xterm'
2. Launch 'firefox'
3. Launch 'libreoffice-writer'
4. Close 'libreoffice-wrirer'

F17 is currently old and EOL.

Please close.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
