This item was discussed during the KDE Workspaces Sprint in a review of all the plasma components. We offer both switch and checkbox in declarative components to offer a choice of boolean components. Two widgets to do the same thing is going to ineviatibly lead to inconsistency. We need either to deprecate one of the components or clear guidelines on which to use when. General view is that checkboxes are clearer on whether the item is selected or not, and matches desktop widget behaviour. If switches are deemed better for touch displays then it should be handled inside the component, and not at the hands of the designer.
that problem comes from the components definition (symbian and meego) that do those two disconnected components with almost the same function. what i think should be done is: * in the documentation advise to use always the checkbox * make both checkbox and switch look like a checkbox in the desktop version * make both look like a slider in the touch version
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding! Nate Graham
