Description Alvaro Aguilera 2012-06-13 15:18:59 UTC
The reviews of the displayed document are shown as a list on the corresponding navigation panel on the left. The are grouped by Page > Author > Type.

This listing need some love. Improving the following things might increase its usability:

* most reviews are of the same type, so I usually get "Page 1 > John Doe > 30 times 'Highlight'". It would be much more useful to substitute the word "Highlight", "Caret", etc. with a representative icon, and instead of the word "hightlight", show part of the text inside it, truncating this text according to the width of the navigation bar. In this way you can read all the reviews at once without having to go over the text with the mouse to get the content of the review displayed.

* double-click on the entry should trigger the action "open pop-up note".

* single-click on the entry should not only scroll the document to corresponding position, but somehow highlight/mark the entry, because sometimes there are several entries nearby and you don't know which one you selected.

Reproducible: Always

Hi Alvaro, thanks for reporting these improvements, there is one problem though is that you reported three unrelated issues in the same bug report and this makes it difficult for us to keep track of which of them is fixed, which is difficult and should be postponed, etc. Could i convince you to close this bug and open 3 new ones, one for each of the new features you want?

Thanks,
  Albert

You can close the report and I'll open three new ones if that simplifies your work. However, I don't agree that the problems are unrelated.

Of course they are related in the sense that they all deal with annotation usability. On the other hand they are unrelated, because they will need to be fixed separately, one by one. It is much easier to keep track of the respective progress if there are three separate reports.

The first one is surely not related to the other ones.

I see the correlation between the ones about mouse click. Personally, I have some doubts about making a single-click *do* something, because the user needs to be able to just select annotations (eg to open the popup menu). But let's discuss this issue in a separate bug.
