Description andrew brewster 2012-05-30 22:06:59 UTC
In the folder pane, the folder and mail properties columns are right-justified, c.f. Akregator, where the feed properties columns are left-justified.

This causes a couple of problems:

1) The numbers in the right-most column abut against the pane width adjustment widget, and the right half of the last character is not always readable.
2) The width of the right-most column is not adjustable independently of the pane width
3) The right-most column text can disappear as you adjust the width of the pane leftwards

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set mail properties (size, unread, total) you wish to see
2. Increase width of folder pane to see text all columns
3. Reduce width of folder pane - right most column can disappear under pane separator as the column width reduces towards an apparent minimum width.
4. You can't independently set the width of the right-most column using the width slider in the column headers

Actual Results:
Right-most column doesn't reduce to a small enough width, and can become not visible

Expected Results:
All columns chosen to view should reach a minimum width to view their contents, and possibly the folder pane should not be adjustable to below the width required to view all the chosen columns
Folder property columns should be left-justified, or centered to avoid characters abutting the folder separator pane and improve readability

KMail2 folder properties pane

Right-most column text is obscured when pane width is reduced (column width cannot be independently adjusted)

The behaviour of the Akregator feed properties pane and the properties columns is much the better example to work with. I presume they use the same kind of widgets so there's example code to reimplement.

All the problems were experienced and screenshots were taken using the Kontact container. Although there appear to be some subtle differences in the exact behaviour of the right-most mail folder property column when using KMail2 directly, the principle problems remain.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
