I selected Effects - Color Effects in Image Editor.

Worked on a JPG image.
Operations done on the image before the crash.
- opened a photo,
- 8 to 16 bits,
- Resize,
- Local Contrast,
- Sharpen,

Then selected "Color Effects" option from "Effects" menu. 
digiKam crashed immediately.
