Description Thomas Pfeiffer 2012-05-26 17:16:10 UTC
The Device Notifier does not work on Mer (tested on x86). When I insert a memory steck/card into USB port or card slot, nothhing happens.
The kernel does recognize them, though. I can mount them from the shell.
And it works well in Meego.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Insert a memory stick in the USB port or
2. Insert a memory card into the card slot
Actual Results:
Nothing happens

Expected Results:
Device Notifier recognizes the memory.

Happened on 2012-05-22-19-35-basyskom-plasma-active-devel-mer-usb-live.iso with updates from today (05-26).

(Not sure if this belongs to Mer, to PA or to Plasma, so feel free to tell me if this is the wrong product / bugtracker).

This error happens because udisks is not included in the image. It's strange that "zypper install udisks" reports that udisks is not even in the rpm repos too.

According to a Mer guy udisks has never been part of Mer, so this is a Plasma Active bug. That makes this bug even more strange, where the udisks we used in the old Mer images came from?

I don't know if there ever was udisks in any Mer image. Sorry that I haven't included that in the original description, but I have never seen the device notifier work in any Mer image, this isn't exactly a new problem

A udisks package is now available. Even though it has an unsatisfied dependency on dosfstools, it works fine so far on my system. It now detects and mounts flash cards and memory sticks again.
Comment 5 Lamarque V. Souza 2012-06-05 22:14:03 UTC
dosfstools is part of project Mer:Tools, probably that project is not in the repo list used to search for upgrades. I think that dependency is not strictly required, I will remove it. I will add udisks as a dependency for kde-workspace (where Device Notifier is), so it will automatically be included in the next images and updates.
Comment 6 Thomas Pfeiffer 2012-08-10 10:19:05 UTC
By now, udisks is installed by default and the device notifier works.
