Description Frederik Schwarzer 2012-05-20 11:11:01 UTC
I have the Timer applet in my panel and every time I start KDE, the digits are not visible. They appear after an hour or so. Not sure what triggers their appearing.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place the Timer applet in your panel
2. restart KDE

At least on Intel graphics with disabled desktop effects, two people were able to reproduce it.

1) What KDE version?

2) How do desktop effects trigger this bug? Do any other applet work or are they the same? what about the applet on the dsktop?

I have an Intel graphics chipset and I toggled effects off with Alt+Shift+F12 and restarted pasma and the timer applet still displays its 00:00:00. Version: next coming 4.9

Marking as waiting for info until exact steps to reproduce are given and KDE version is specified

Sorry, I always forget to set the version because it is not asked in the form anymore. :/

I just stated that desktop effects were disabled. Not sure whether or not they affect this bug. I have problems activating them on my computer.

I am currently building master/trunk in a VM. I will be able to test further there. Well, not 4.8.3 then, but still...

Thanks for the answers.
1) What about the applet behavior on the desktop?
2) Do you reproduce with "kquitapp plasma-desktop" then "plasma-desktop" from Konsole? any useful output here?
3) Does resizing the panel make the digits appear?

The display for the Timer applet is a Plasma:SvgWidget. Can you try the Eyes applet in your panel please?

Timer on Desktop is fine.
Eyes on Desktop and in Panel is fine.
kquitapp plas... is not enough to trigger the problem; KDE has to be restarted.
Resizing the panel immediately makes Timer in Panel visible.

So probably a sizing issue?
Comment 6 Anne-Marie Mahfouf 2012-05-20 14:26:04 UTC
what's your panel size?
Comment 7 Frederik Schwarzer 2012-05-20 15:15:55 UTC
No idea. I mean, now the config file says 28 but I changed it and it is basically impossible to get back to the same height again.

I have the same issue under KDE 4.11.2. When I start KDE the timer widget in my panel is invisible. Things that fix it include resizing the panel and configuring the timer widget.

Just tried disabling the "show seconds" option and rebooting to see if it was similar to Bug 254854, but it isn't. Disabling "show seconds" still results in invisible timer. I would point out that I've noticed this bug using kubuntu 13.10 with KDE 4.11.2 and also under Debian Wheezy (and whatever version of KDE comes with that). Under Debian, the timer isn't really invisible, it's just so small that the numbers all look like dots or dashes, so I'd guess that that there's just a problem with the initial font size.

Closing this as the Timer in more recent versions (here 5.4.3) is working fine.
