the top portion of India - Jammu & Kashmir region is not at all included .. We suppose that the map is taken from openstreetmap.org or maps.google.com. Both these sites give erroneous maps. maps.google.co.in gives a clear India Map. request if the India Map in the globe can be corrected. Reproducible: Always If required we can attach a screen shot
Created attachment 71135 [details] This is a screenshot of map of India as presented by the Marble Globe. This is an erroneous map whcih does not include Jammu & Kashmir region. correct map is available at "maps.google.co.in"
Created attachment 71136 [details] marble-India copy.png Hi Nagesh The OpenStreetMaps in Marble are downloaded from the OSM servers only. We do not officially support google maps. The theme you are using should have been derived from OSM as a base map. As per my knowledge, the boundaries in OSM map of India is based on some public available census/survey data which obviously doesn't contain information about the disputed region. I would recommend you to discuss this issue further on talk-in@openstreetmap.org
Hi Siddarth Thanks for the response. I have attahed a screen shot of the marble Globe .Please note that the top portion of the India Map is reversed. Hence the map has missed out Jammu & kashmir region. regards Nagesh Siddharth Srivastava wrote: > https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=300125 > > Siddharth Srivastava <akssps011@gmail.com> changed: > > What |Removed |Added > ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- > CC| |akssps011@gmail.com > > --- Comment #2 from Siddharth Srivastava <akssps011@gmail.com> --- > Hi Nagesh > > The OpenStreetMaps in Marble are downloaded from the OSM servers only. > We do not officially support google maps. Hi Nagesh If you are talking about the J&K region being reversed, my comparison with the standard maps do not result in any reversal. It only looks odd due to improper international boundary in that region. I again recommend you to discuss this issue further on OpenStreetMap mailing lists. Thanks Siddharth Srivastava
Dear Mr Siddarth As of now, we have disabled the boundaries. Once you enable the boundaries, you can see a clear difference in the map. We request you to pls look in to this, meanwhile we will discuss the issue in OpenStreetmap mailing lists as suggested. Thanks & regards R. It's not related to OpenStreetMap data, the atlas data has a different origin. We're looking into it.
Created attachment 71207 [details] Jammu and Kashmir as displayed in Indian official maps The file attached provides indian country borders for Marble which should match those in Indian official maps. We suggest that you replace the file "PDIFFBORDER.PNT" in your Marble installation with this file. Please provide feedback whether this fixes the issue.
Another comment: In terms of country borders we try to stick to international / UN conventions regarding boundaries. So this particular version of PDIFFBORDERS.PNT has been specifically created for Indian Marble users and for use in Indian schools.
Created attachment 71208 [details] Screenshot of the latest Marble version with patched Indian border And here is a screenshot that shows how Marble looks with the PDIFFBORDER-IN.PNT file attached to this bug report.
And here is a tutorial that shows how you can adjust PNT files yourself! (and it shows how this version of the Jammu & Kashmir map got created) :-) In theory you could also add further indian states and union territories using the tools described there: http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Marble/PNTFiles
