Description K. A. Sayeed 2012-05-15 20:00:07 UTC
1. A custom field created in an existing contact in an address book is NOT automatically created in a new contact after the new contact is created EVEN THOUGH the "Use field for all contacts" box was PREVIOUSLY checked in the existing contact.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select an existing contact in an Address book.
2. Open it in the "edit" mode.
3. Click the mouse on the "Custom fields" tab.
4. Click the mouse on the "Add" button to create a custom field.
5. Enter a custom field name and check the "Use field for all contacts" box.
6. Close the existing contact.
7. Now create a new contact by clicking on the "New Contact" button or by using the menu.
8. Click the mouse on the "Custom fields" tab of the new contact.
9. Examine the custom fields to determine if the previously created custom field (see step 5) exists in the newly created contact.
Actual Results:
1. No custom field was displayed.

Expected Results:
1. Every custom field for which the "Use field for all contacts" box was checked in any and every existing contact must be displayed, must be intelligible, and must be usable in a NEW CONTACT whenever a new contact is created.

1. The Operating System in use is Kubuntu 12.04.

2. The KDE PIM was installed automatically during the OS installation process.

3. Other problems relating to custom fields in the address book have been reported earlier.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kaddressbook (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 2 Denis Kurz 2017-01-07 22:43:02 UTC
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
