seems to crash in QLayout::widgetEvent(e); (ubuntu seems to have 8 lines offset at this pos of qapplication.cpp) What decoration do you use and in case you can reproduce this for sure, does changing* the decoration "fix" that? * "kcmshell4 kwindecoration"
Apparently I cannot reproduce him(it) but several times kubuntu1204 seem to stake even to freeze (like when you have bad sectors!). I don't know what is decoration means(?) Oxygen is selected for Window Decoration!
Created attachment 81867 [details] New crash information added by DrKonqi kwin (4.11.00) on KDE Platform 4.11.00 using Qt 4.8.2 - What I was doing when the application crashed: I was updating several applications and after it was done I went to firefox to start homework. It bugged out and covered my whole screen. I could not interact with the top menu bar at all. I had no way to even access the kickoff launcher as firefox covered it. - Unusual behavior I noticed: It took a long time for the update to finish, I didn't mind but it may have had some effect on the situation. - Custom settings of the application: I just installed firefox so I have no add-ons. -- Backtrace (Reduced): #6 KWin::Scene::paintSimpleScreen (this=0xf70c70, orig_mask=0, region=...) at ../../kwin/scene.cpp:897 #7 0x00007f4f969d6aa2 in KWin::Scene::finalPaintScreen (this=0xf70c70, mask=0, region=..., data=...) at ../../kwin/scene.cpp:184 #8 0x00007f4f969fbb6c in KWin::EffectsHandlerImpl::paintScreen (this=0x111c1b0, mask=0, region=..., data=...) at ../../kwin/effects.cpp:374 #9 0x00007f4f969d981f in KWin::Scene::paintScreen (this=0xf70c70, mask=0x7fff9f2bc018, region=0x7fff9f2bc160) at ../../kwin/scene.cpp:141 #10 0x00007f4f969f3246 in KWin::SceneOpenGL::paint (this=0xf70c70, damage=..., toplevels=...) at ../../kwin/scene_opengl.cpp:360
(In reply to comment #3) > New crash information added by DrKonqi That crash is not a dupe, but this #6 KWin::Scene::paintSimpleScreen (this=0xf70c70, orig_mask=0, region=...) at ../../kwin/scene.cpp:897 is memory corruption. > - What I was doing when the application crashed: I was updating several > applications From many other "memory corruption when updating ubuntu packages" crashes on random applications: Pray the system doesn't crash *during* the update and once its done, just reboot immediately. Either Ubuntu uses silly mount options on /usr/lib or they truncate on installation (ie. either use cp instead of install or patched install to act like cp) - i can't really say, but whatever they do clearly confuses mmap (so the most robust approach was to actually log-out, move to VT1, call "apt-get update; apt-get upgrade" and then reboot.
