Description Dr. Dwight Scott Miller 2012-05-10 18:26:10 UTC
Any attempt to assign a start or stop time is (usually) ignored - the time does not "stick".
Once in a while something will stick, but it is usually 3 hours off from the time selected.

(yes, "all day" was UN-selected)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open calendar, double click a day to create event
2.unclick "takes all day"
3.enter event data, including times
4.any click outside the time box and the time goes back to zero
Actual Results:
no time recorded

Expected Results:
event should show start/stop times
Comment 1 Allen Winter 2012-05-30 22:17:41 UTC
I am unable to reproduce this so far.

have you tried KDE 4.8.3 yet? if so, is this reproducable in KDE 4.8.3?

any other info you can give me?
Comment 2 Dr. Dwight Scott Miller 2012-06-01 02:47:38 UTC
Thank you for your contact!

Yes, I am using 4.8.3-346.3 (Build 25 May)
The bug is consistent. Any attempt to set start/stop times fails. Both times return to 0000 as as soon as any action outside the time entry boxes occurs.

I note that the "default" values entered into the boxes when I first un-select the "Takes all day" are 0000 and 0100.

The effect is the same across all methods of trying to edit or add a new event that I have found.

I intend to make one test (since my system has been on an upgrade path for several versions and treks into and out of FACTORY and has not had a clean-disk install for several years) by fully removing Kontact and all its components and files and re-installing. I will need to track down and back up calendar, contact, email, and alarm information before I can do that, so it may be several days to as much as a week and a half before I will have time to do that. Even then, it may be a dependency on a library that is not directly identified with Kontact.

p.s. Do you have any hints as to what I could check to verify it is not "dumb operator error" or a setting problem? I have looked at all the configuration dialogs I could find and see nothing relevant.

For some reason whenever I add a new event, it is correct in the capture form but shows an hour earlier in the Calendar.

Reminders are then also an hour earlier.

Can you get a new screenshot, but expand the "timezones" are in the dialog, so we can see the timezone.

Also, which timezone does the view use?

now on 4.9.3 but same bug continues:
open kalendar, double click a day, "timezones" option is not visible, un-check "takes all day", timezones now visible, fill in title and times, select OK, item appears in calendar with time = 0000

Go to: Settings -> Time and Date -> Default Values

How much is the "default duration of new appointments" ?

Did you fill in times with your mouse, or keyboard ?
Comment 16 Dr. Dwight Scott Miller 2012-11-20 21:20:30 UTC
I have used both; I do not recall the latest, but it is slightly more likely
mouse than keyboard.

I will try pure keyboard and let you know.

Same result - Other than selecting "CXalendar" from the Kontact side menu, I
used only the keyboard to insert an event - the result was the same - no time
values stick, no matter what.

Right click on your calendar, and click on "Calendar Properties".

Take a screenshot please.

There is no response to any right click on any portion of the calendar that I
can see, certainly nothing that is labeled "Calendar Properties".

I am continuing to cick to try to find such a thing.

On the bottom left, you should the Calendar Manager, and you should have one entry called "Default Calendar", click on that one.
Comment 21 Dr. Dwight Scott Miller 2012-11-20 22:40:55 UTC

calendar properties shot

sorry - made the shot last night (US-CST) then got distracted and did not upload...
Comment 24 Dr. Dwight Scott Miller 2012-11-21 14:04:54 UTC
Looking in std.ics: with no events in the calendar, I see only the remains of a very old event. As soon as I put in a test event for today, it fills with all the Daylight Saving info, retains the dregs of the old event, and adds the new one, but with no time data.

... am going to delete and recreate std.ics and see what ahppens, maybe also try building one with a different file name ... probably should also try starting kalendar from CLI and not through Kontact ...
Comment 25 Bruno 2013-01-11 15:51:07 UTC
The same....."Dias libres"(free days) not work.....
Comment 26 Dr. Dwight Scott Miller 2013-04-23 14:36:57 UTC
now on 4.10.2
noticed the following:
I was at http://warhorn.net/roll20-pfs/ to download my gaming schedule - board offered download in ics format, I said OK, import as NEW calendar. Calendar appeared WITH START TIMES. Looked at raw ics file and the start times are there, as are end times of "0000".

I attempted to set END time to 2359 and editor forced both times to zero:
Time: 0000
Duration: forever
in the lower left box, but I see no changes in the calendar file itself. Reloading the calendar (F5) returns the original times. (same if change is "OK" or "Apply"
Editing ics in kate and storing in USER home folder applies time/date data and they are reflected in kalendar.( kalendar itself puts things in /etc/tmp/) Time setting using USER file permanently zeros out both start/stop time.
Comment 27 Dr. Dwight Scott Miller 2013-04-23 14:40:04 UTC
Time start is reduced to zero and date/time END dis appears altogether, no entry for DTEND is left in the ics at all.
Comment 28 Denis Kurz 2016-09-24 19:23:58 UTC
This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kontact (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.
Comment 29 Denis Kurz 2017-01-07 21:39:42 UTC
Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
