Description michele.alzetta 2012-05-05 14:42:05 UTC
I have an email account which was on a personal VPS and is now hosted on fastmail.fm. The problem presented itself on my VPS and is now presenting itself on fastmail.fm, so it is not a problem of my IMAP server. If I connect to my IMAP account using kmail several (but not all) html mails received are stripped of all content, and all that is left is the headers and empty content. This seems to happen to mail that the IMAP server receives while kmail is actively connected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Setup an IMAP email account
2. Connect to it with kmail
3. Synchronize
4. Send yourself an html email so that it arrives during kmail connection
5. result = you've lost content of that mail both on kmail and on accessing your mail server with a different client
Actual Results:
mail originally received by the mail system with html content becomes an email with empty content

Expected Results:
kept the original html content

This definitely confirms it is a kmail problem, as I thought.
If I don't use kmail, I don't have any problem.

Which exact Kmail2 version is this about and is this reproducible with Kmail 4.8.5 or later? Please set the version field accordingly.

I have been using kmail on various linux pc's ( gentoo and ubuntu ) and started having problems sometime at the beginning of 2012. It took me a while before I realized what was happening, first problems probably started with the latest kmail release in the first months of 2012 (what was that? 4.8.0 ? ) It was definitely still present when I abandoned kmail precisely because of this bug still biting in june 2012 ( 4.8.4 ? )

So it has been present for at least 3 - 4 realeases, can't tell if it is still present in 4.8.5 but if it hasn't been fixed I fear it still is - don't want to try and lose some other important mail.

Sorry, I don't see where to set the version in this bug report: probably missed the editable field first time, can't see it now.

Thank you for the fast feedback. The version field is on top of the report, right below the component field. I set it to 4.8.4 now.

This bug has only been reported for versions before 4.14, which have been unsupported for at least two years now. Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a Framework-based version of kmail2 (version 5.0 or later, as part of KDE Applications 15.12 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.
