When i sorting by file type it will work corectly, but only after a few seconds. First you see sort by name, then the view changes to typ. So at work you have a problem. Often you click the wrong icon, the wrong file or folder. The problem is only since i update from kde 4.7.4 to kde 4.8.1

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. change to sort by type for all folders and subfolders, the same when you make this es template for new folders
2. open with this a folder, then you can see first sort by name, then changes to sort by type.

Thanks for the report, this has been fixed in 4.9.0
