Description kavol 2012-04-26 08:12:30 UTC
I have no use for activities on my desktop, yet they are getting into my way all the time.

- I just got a support call from an user who switched the activity accidentally, and she was unable to continue her work ... handling one desktop and one activity is sometimes too much for her, the whole activities concept is more than confusing - IOW, she's not used to the fact that her cooker would turn into washing machine in the middle of preparing the dinner

So I was trying to find a way how to disable this thing and I've found there is no such setting. Of course I can delete all the preconfigured activities but it still leaves me with the option of accidentally switching to a new one, all the activities controls are still present (and confusing).

Please add some setting to disable these ...

So far, what I was able to find regarding the topic, there is the "IHateTheCashew" app which hides one of the menus that can be used also to control activities - that is not what do I want, I don't want to kill the menu, I just want to get rid of the activities item on that menu ... I can customise the applications menu, why I can't customise this one? Why are the keyboard shortcuts for activities missing from shortcuts configuration in SystemSettings?

I have also found bug #248014 - that, complete activities removal, is not what do I want; I've saw activities in action on some smartphone and it looked quite cool. But it just not a thing that would be so cool for *every* desktop computer user ... So it'd be very nice to have a way how to prevent activities from getting into the way in usecases where the activities are of no benefit. - It's also the point of the bug #248014 comment #2, pity no one paid attention to it ...

Reproducible: Always

Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!
