Description burek 2012-04-18 18:38:39 UTC
When I accidentally removed my taskbar panel (for which there is no Undo or at least "ARE YOU SURE?" dialog, too bad), I recreated the default panel, just to find out that some applications, which were minimized to the systray, don't show there anymore (like XChat for example). The problem was how to "show" the XChat window (make it visible), so I could continue working with it (for example, to save my work and exit the app in the clean way). In windows there is a utility called WinDowse, which can give you a list of all the windows created on the default desktop, so you can select one and modify its properties (like visibility, widht, height, etc.) and I was wondering is there any such a tool for KDE?

Is there any way I can restore my hidden XChat window (and others) to be able to save my work, without losing any of important data?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open an application (XChat in this example) and click on the systray icon to minimize it there.
2. Remove the default taskbar panel (containing the systray)
3. Add new default taskbar panel (containing the systray)
Actual Results:
New panel shows, with new systray, but without icons of some running applications, so now those applications remain with their gui windows hidden, unable to be restored back, without killing/restarting the application (and losing all the important data).

Expected Results:
Expected result would be to see all the icons back in systray or at least to have a tool that can help show those hidden windows (that were minimized to the original systray) so I can continue working with them.

If any needed, please let me know, I can provide. I didn't restart my computer since then, so I can still debug the situation, but I won't be able to keep this situation for a long time, so please have understanding about it and if you need any data, try to hurry up with the request :) Thanks :)

Which exact KDE version is this about?

Thank you for the fast feedback. JFYI: as the original reporter you can set the version field yourself.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham
