This sounds like my experience with a brand-new system I built myself that uses the hyperthreading capabilities of an Intel i3 processor combined with Asrock H67M-GE/HT board instead of a separate video / soundcard. My download of Linux Mint 12.04 KDE was md5um checked and generally runs well although the Software Manager crash also occurs whenever I try to use it. When restarted Kmix defaults to the HDMI device for output, perhaps because an HDMI lead is what I use to connect my screen with the computer, but I have to reset Kmix each time to Analog Audio Stereo as I use the sound jack for the speaker hardware.- pretty annoying. This is probably too much or too little relevant info - sorry, I'm a newbie.
