Meanwhile, kwrite and kate are installed in the system, and both when runned give the following: "A KDE text-editor component could not be found. Please check your KDE installation." Search a bit , through the internet , the proposed "dbus-launcher kwrite" fix, didn't work. First appeared after last kde upgrade. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. System Settings ->Default Applications->Emb.Text editor 2. 3. Actual Results: I got an empty list of choices. And kwrite, kate give the message mentioned above. Expected Results: Have kwrite, kate on the list of choices for the editor part. And kwrite, kate launch correctly.
forgot to mention System settings version 1.0 Kde version 4.8.2.
Can you test on a freshly created user account?
made a new clean user account. test1 in a newly created home folder. The same thing happens.
Reinstalling some components of kde, solved the issue. So it is not your bug anyway. Thanks for your time.
