Description comet.friend 2012-04-08 11:01:58 UTC
Pre-conditions:
After a failed migration from KMail of KDE 4.5.5 to 4.8.2 I followed the instructions here: http://userbase.kde.org/KMail/FAQs_Hints_and_Tips#KMail2_doesn.27t_send_mail

Reproducing the problem:

1. Create new IMAP account as described in the FAQ (hyperlink above).

2. Create identity, go to Extra tab (I hope that's the English tab label, in German it's "Erweitert"). to define the way email should be sent. On this tab you can also associate folders for sent mail, drafts etc. However, only local folders are available, although the new Akonadi resource for the just created IMAP folder claims to be available and active.

3. Take a look at the folder list in the KMail2 main window: No trace of any new IMAP folders. But:

4. But select "Manage local subscriptions" from the context menu that appears when you right-click the mouse in the folder list pane. Surprise, surprise: The new IMAP resource is available!

5. End KMail2 and restart it. Result: The new IMAP folder is where it is supposed to be!

Im older KMail versions the creation of IMAP accounts was immediately reflected in the folder list, which is much more user-friendly. It is by no means obvious, why an IMAP resource appears in the "local subscriptions" in the folder list context menu, but not in the list itself, and there is no hint, that (and why) the resource appears in the folder list only after restarting the program.

That's why I consider this a bug. If no quick fix is possible, there should, at least be, some help text explaining that the user should restart KMail2 after creating IMAP accounts.

Best regards

   Alex

work fine for me. Don't know why it doesn't work for you

Good for you, but here the problem persists even after deleting ~/.kde and the KDE cache files in /tmp etc., unfortunately. I don't know either, why it's not working as expected, here.
