Description Heath Matlock 2012-04-08 04:23:36 UTC
Bouncy cursors look dated, they are a continual reminder that my computer, distro, and/or kde is slow. I haven't used them in so long, but i recall that I once had them bouncing when they shouldn't be bouncing (after program had completed loading), so they are another point of failure that can be illiminated relatively easy.

fun quotes concerning this bug:
"are you saying bouncy cursors went the way of the paperclip? in that case I agree."
"It's lineage can be traced back to when apps took a long time to load...to keep your attention that the system was "working on it". ...I think."

Please make "no busy cursors" the default for the next KDE release.

No. The feedback is very important. On systems, that did not offer feedback, I very often started things multiple times, because it was nowhere indicating that it is already starting.

It could be changed to "passive cursor" maybe.

You still have feedback with "no busy cursor" selected. In the default plasma panel, a new task entry with a loading symbol is shown when you launch an application.

The settings for the panel are easy to find (just right-click the panel), and once you have a autohidden panel, you lose that feedback. The settings for the cursor are not easy to find.

I'm asking for the default settings to remove the bouncy cursors , the panel isn't hidden by default. If someone wants starts customizing their setup, they will find themselves in the Common Appearance and Behavior section of the systemsettings shortly, where they can customize the launch feedback setting. I'd like to know how many computers really need launch feedback these days, it looks better without the feedback in my opinion.

i like bouncy cursors. they reminds me if and which app i've launched in a happy way.

thank god those dang bouncy cursors can be switched off in sys settings.
Comment 7 Nate Graham 2020-09-29 02:32:34 UTC
Feedback itself is important, but that feedback doesn't need to be in the form of a bouncing animation.

Personally I rather like it, but I totally understand the perspective that it's cheesy, dated, or unprofessional. I think it might be nice to have a new one that's just the typical busy spinner by the cursor.
