Description Steven Sroka 2012-04-06 18:35:15 UTC
Dr. Konqi was searching for duplicate bug reports that were created two to three years ago (2009 - 2010). It should search for reports created during the current year back to two years before (ex. 2012 - 2010).

Essentially, if a user tries reporting a bug in 2012 why not search for existing reports from at least that same year?

DrKonqi always begins searching from the current date (as set on your computer clock) until one year ago. When it doesn't find anything in that year, it tries the year before that, until it reaches 2008. 2008 was chosen as a reasonable year for looking up KDE4 bug reports, as 2007 and earlier are basically the KDE3 era. In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with this algorithm.

Ah, see that makes sense. I didn't know that Dr. Konqi was even searching for duplicate reports starting on today's date because on the screen where it searches for reports, it listed the year range being used as 2009 - 2010.

I presume the date range sits in a QLabel. How/when does the label get updated? It would be more clear if the *end date* listed on the label was always set to the current date.

Ex:
Searching the current year's worth of reports -> "01/01/2012"
Searching last year's worth of reports -> "01/01/2011 - 01/01/2012"
Searching two year's worth of reports -> "01/01/2010 - 01/01/2012"

Searching is no longer date range based but rather a fixed amount of bugs backwards. Starting in Plasma 5.17.
