Recent digikam makes possible to expand/collapse fiels in Informations, but not for description or tags. why ? depending on users, some fields are used more than users. For example, I'm using title and not legend (at least since it exists), I'm not using label. It could make it possible to merge the 3 tabs in one if most are collapsed or giving alternatives for user with small screen (like netbook): smaller field for title and legend for example
I tried this solution. It's bloat GUI a lots. All in compressed, especially Tag view. Tab solution is better. Tag view must use full screen lenght. Gilles Caulier
I'm not against tab. My problem is I have a netbook screen as it's a travel tool and space is limited. It is also more difficult as the minimum size of left/right panel is quiet big compare to netbook screen size (1024x600 in my case). They are informations part I never used, some textfield also which are taking a big place, so if possible, I wish I would be able to focus on the fields I only need to. It's a way to make editing faster in another way compared to fast edit with keyboard (Bug 297291)
I recently switched from digikam-1.9.0 (Mandriva 2011) to digikam-3.1.0 (Mageia 3). My opinion is that the new interface (tab for tags) is much less usable than the previous one: I need twice the time to legend + tag my photos because I have to switch between tabs, which is not practical at all. It should be the user choice to determine whether and where to display the title/legend/labels/tags fields. Not all users have the same usage of digiKam nor the same screen resolution... Anyway, thanks a lot for your work!
