Status bar allows to cancel easily a filter but with the removal of the search/star filter directly in the status bar (Bug 147533), there is no quick way to restore a filter. 
A small menu instead of "No active filter" could allow to restore either last n, either favorite n, either both, depending on settings and displaying "No active filter" when nothing is selected

To me, the button in the status bar always looks more like "Undo" rather than "Clear filter". How about extending it to "Undo"/"Redo" and "Clear"...

The Undo/redo was the initial thought but pushing it a bit more made the suggestion above which seems more fit to me with the disappearance of some "quick" filter like rating or fulltext filter.
