Description Nick Cross 2012-03-29 15:13:17 UTC
Why does konversation complete on my own nickname? It would be useful if that did not happen - my IRC nickname and another user have the same initial completion and a few times I have not cycled correctly and therefore used my own nickname looking like I am talking to myself ;-)

The problem there is that some people *want* to complete their own nicknames for a variety of purposes (e.g. bot commands), so it's difficult to please everyone. Additionally, when Konversation completes to the most recently seen active (i.e. chatting) nickname for the given prefix, it already exempts the own nickname. Thus accidentally completing to one's own nick should be a rare occurance overall, even when multiple nicknames with the same starting letter are in play.

Dare I ask - any chance of an option? :-)

Maaaaaybe ... the problem with options is that they're not free, they come at the cost of making the config UI more complex, and of course require maintenance. That means they need to justify their experience, i.e. may not be a lazy excuse for doing the right thing in the first place, need to be useful to enough users, or need to address some critical need.

From my end I do not doubt that your annoyance is genuine and that your user experience would be improved by an option, but it's also the first time this has been reported in the 6-7 years or so I've been around, so I have to weigh your need against the needs of everyone else using the application.

Thanks for the considered reply. Understood :-) I just need to be more careful about typing!

Thanks for being understanding, and believe me that saying "no" is not easy :).
