Description Stephan Althaus 2001-07-24 13:59:00 UTC
(*** This bug was imported into bugs.kde.org ***)

Package: kghostview
Version: 0.12-beta1 (using KDE 2.2.0 beta1)
Severity: wishlist
Installed from: compiled sources
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.7
OS/Compiler notes:

To look through my newly generated pdf/ps
document I would like to see the two
corresponding pages of my book at once.
Is it possible to show to pages at a time ?

Not yet but it's on my TODO list. It's pretty hard to implement though so
I can't say if it will be done by the time KDE-3.0 comes out.

I also need this. I use kghostview extensively as a pdf viewer. It such a good
job I seldom use any other program.

I have just downloaded a 200 page pdf that I would like to print. I would like
to print this file with 2 or 4 document pages per printed page. Moreover, since
I don't have a duplex unit, I would also like to print first the 'odd' groups
of pages and then the 'even' groups of pages. Such an arrangement would
condense the document to about 50 pages (1/4 of the weight & size of the full
document).

This feature, together with some basic page setup, such as centering and
zooming of text, trimming of margins and possibly saving the transformed
document, would make kghostview even more usefull.

Are there any plans to a kghostool? ;)

Me too

Please add this nice feature as a kind of book-mode:
Print page 1 alone, and then all even pages on the left and the odd pages on the right,
like an open book.

Yes and also support for people with multiple screens.

it would be a very useful feature to see how it looks like when you print and bind your document, specifically when using editing programs with LaTeX which have a lot of features (e.g. fancy header package) controlling odd/even margins...
As a workaround, one could use ps tools to create this document (e.g. glue a4 odd and even pages on a a3 page)...

Me to! I use a xinerama setup with 2 screens at work, and being able
to see multiple pages accross in viewers is a really nice feature that acroread can do.

Wow this is an old bug!
I notice in 3.5.9 Okular can do facing pages - is this actually the right response to this bug or do people still want kghostview to do it - personally as long as their is a standard KDE viewer that can do it I'm not too fussed.

As mentioned in one of the comments, Okular can do this already.
