Description Kino 2012-03-21 22:09:02 UTC
Bug 184788 describe a situation used by me and by my team to semplify our work: having "new tab" act like "clone" you can open a Konsole window with a ssh command and have all tabs automatically open the same connection.
So you can have 5 konsole windows (5 icons in the taskbar) to manage 5 different server.

Now, with KDE 4.8, the some behaviour require more steps. With 4.7 was a simple "Ctrl+Shift+T".

Please, please, please: add a configuration option to have "new" act like "clone"; or add "clone" as menu item.

The few guys having windows and using Putty / TeraTerm have "New Session" and "Duplicate session"

In KDE SC 4.9, a new action "Clone Tab" has been added. See bug 292518.

I can understand why some users perfer the "clone" behavior, but I don't think it is a good idea to make "New Tab" configurable. It is just unnecessarily smart and confusing. I prefer to have two different actions dedicated for their simple and clear semantics.
