Description Patrick Op de Beeck 2012-03-05 17:29:18 UTC
The Kodak CD format is one of the first digital storage format available for Photographers. Many people stil use it because a lot of photo's are stored in this format promoted by the KODAK company for professional use and longterm storage. As such many hobbyist also used this format when they sent their analog films in for development and digitalisation.
Nowadays I cannot find any program anymore who reads the format and makes the picture visible.
It would be nice if digikam can read it and store it away in another format with all stored information contained in the PCD format.
Either as a plug-in or standard feature.

PCD support is delegate to KDE Image IO...

Note : ImageMagick has PCD support as image loader...

ImageMagick isn't delivered in the (K)Ubuntu tree anymore.

Look to graphicsmagick as alternative to IM :

I found no installable binary for Linux, only rpm sourcecode -if it was
for Linux and not for M$..
All the binaries were for M$ O.S. :-(
So in my opinion there is no support anymore in GNU/Linux. We have to
fallback to M$ programs to get something an average user can use/install.

Probably you find the source code in imagemagic and you have only to make a
module of it and include it in digikam.
Myself I working only with GNU/Linux. And I prefer it this way. So the
suggestion is more actual/urgent than I ever thought.

Since KODAK is almost gone (broke/faillissement) there wouldn't be any
license issues -if they were ever necessary.-
thanks for the links.

Patrick
