Description Johannes E. Krause 2012-03-03 14:00:32 UTC
in some (very rare) conditions my kmail "forgets" which mails it already got from the server, and redownloads all of them (several hundred)

previously, i could just select "remove duplicates" and everything was fine, but now this option does nothing at all, i still have all emails twice.
Comment 1 Laurent Montel 2012-03-05 08:01:34 UTC
could you look at if two emails are really the same.
Create a folder:
copy two emails in.
Look at in directory in console and make a diff on this two emails.
Comment 2 Martin Tlustos 2012-06-14 13:17:00 UTC
Confirmed with kubuntu 12.04:
904 emails, many duplicates. moving some duplicates into a separate tst folder and do ctrl+* works, but not in my folder with many duplicates. It looks like as soon as there are duplicates of more than one email, the process doesn't work.

Edit: if there are only email duplicates in a folder, it works. But if there are other emails, too, it doesn't

I can confirm the "remove duplicate mails" has no effect whatsoever in my folders, though there are duplicates ... CTRL+* has the same (well: none) effect ... p.

need test case
Comment 7 Martin Tlustos 2012-09-04 16:21:22 UTC
I retested in 4.8.4 and it seems to work (at least in a test subfolder). It also detected one duplicate in a folder with more emails (263, one duplicate removed, so 262 left over). But in a folder with over 1.000 emails with many duplicates (new and old ones), it did not work. How could I get that to you?

With kmail 4.9.5 (Fedora 18) "remove duplicates" still is a complete NOP for me. No progress indicator, no error message, nothing. kmail 4.10 rc3 seems to work: It shows a progress bar, and for a folder with 5 mails finishes the job in finite time. The real test case is still "retrieving items" (and heavily swapping) ...

The duplicates really are identical - and finding them doesn't seem to be the problem, the job apparently doesn't start at all.

The server is cyrus imapd on Fedora 17.
I tested 4.10 in a newly created virtual machine (Fedora Rawhide) ... so: Did something change in kmail, or is my working environment suffering from upgrade debris?

KDE 4.10 running on Kubuntu 12.10 - I see a progress bar, something is working but it never deletes any mails though there are many duplicates (some 5 or 6 times) as remainder of the regressions in kmail when using filters. I tried marking the mails with "CTRL + a" and then activated the function to remove dupes. Starts working bzt nothing is acomplished - not one mail is deleted!

This is still a serious regression to kmail, though kmail2 is running for 2 years now - come on, this has to be fixed by now ...

thx for reading, piedro

It seems to work for me, but as I am not the official reporter, I won't change the status.
