In a big folder with many different filetypes (opening for the first time ore reloading with F5), the images previews appers suddenly, but one filetype after the other.

All together this feels very jarring: I’m stilgthly startled everytime the icons suddenly change their image.

An Alternative I can think of would be to not delete the icons on F5 and recompute, but to replace them and only update the new icons once they are recalculated - but keep the old ones around, till they are replaced.

Another option to make it seem less jarring would be to make new icons fade in. That way, they would not startle the user.

But aside from that, the new display engine is really nice. Really cool work!

Reproducible: Always

Resetting assignee to default as per bug #305719

I don't see this behavior anymore. The icon previews are now generated icon-by-icon, not one type at a time.
