Description Heinz Wiesinger 2012-02-20 18:42:32 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS: Linux

When moving (by drag & drop) emails from a folder (say 'inbox') to another (say 'filtered'), the emails are moved, but marked as unread in the new location, before after a few seconds they reappear, duplicated, in the original folder and marked as unread as well (even if they were marked as read before).

The emails are all local, no remote server involved. Emails were fetched from a POP3 account before.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Move emails from one folder to another.

Actual Results:
Mail gets duplicated

Expected Results:
Mail is moved, read-status is preserved.

I'm using akonadi 1.7.0, configured to use an external MySQL server.
Email indexing is disabled.

I've seen the same behaviour on Debian using Akonadi with the sqlite backend.

I can confirm this with Akonadi 1.12.1 (shipped via debian) and kmail 4.12.2.

Unfortunatelly this bug only occourse sometimes. I think, that this bug is related, that akonadi cheks for new mails at the same time, when moving mails.

Same bug here with KDE 4.13.0 and KDE 4.13 on openSUSE Factory.

This happens (nearly?) always when
a) I move around multiple mails at once (moving a single mail seems to be boomerang-free)
b) the folder has a high throughput (like the inbox, where the mails arrive and later get moved or filtered away)
c) the folder contains lots of mails (>1000 seem to be a good reproducer)

I also verified that moving the mails one by one is boomerang-free - but that's a very annoying and time-consuming workaround when moving 50 mails :-/

hefee_ on #kontact has the same problem with KDE 4.12 / kmail 4.12.2 - he confirmed a) and is not sure about b). c) seems not to be necessary - hefee_ also had this bug when moving nearly all mails in a folder with about 20 mails.

Adding a me too. environment, archlinux, akonadi 1.13.0-3, postgresql 9.4.1 backend, kmail 4.14.7

I run a local dovecot server for email archival. Moving any mails to the imap server, deletes them from current folder and they appear back after a moment, mails are copied to the server.

However, if I apply a filter to move mails to imap server ,then they are not duplicated back.

This is very annoying, to the extent I thought to ditching kmail but for now, I am doing copy/delete, to avoid duplicates.

This bug has only been reported for versions older than KDEPIM 4.14 (at most akonadi-1.3). Can anyone tell if this bug still present?

If noone confirms this bug for a recent version of akonadi (part of KDE Applications 15.08 or later), it gets closed in about three months.

Just as announced in my last comment, I close this bug. If you encounter it again in a recent version (at least 5.0 aka 15.08), please open a new one unless it already exists. Thank you for all your input.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I've seen this with KMail 5.4.0 some days ago.
I just opened bug 374738 ;-)
