Description Björn Sonnenschein 2012-02-19 14:54:24 UTC
Version: 4.8.0 (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS: Linux

I have set the animation speed to slow on my system.
When activating the Desktop Grid there is also a highlight effect that fades out the Desktops the mouse cursor is not above.
So if I move the cursor over an other desktop it slowly starts to become brighter. But when I click on the desktop before it it has its full brightness, it will zoom in and then, at the end of the effect, jump to its real brightness of cause. It would be much better if it would fade to its real brightness while zooming in if the highlighting was not completed before.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
Activate Desktop Grid.
Move cursor to an other desktop and instantly click.

Expected Results:
A smooth desktop switching experience ;)

I have a similar effect on my system, however, for me the problem doesn't seem to be "brightness" related:

* Open some windows on your first virtual desktop
* I activate the desktop grid effect by a screen corner (bottom right)
* -> The effect activates
* Click on the first virtual desktop to activate (it again)
* -> The windows displayed on the desktop do not move smoothly back into place.

After this jumpy behavior occurred, it will not happen again for this desktop until you move windows around on that desktop or open new ones.

Switching to a different desktop that the one that was currently active does not lead to a jumpy behavior

I forgot to say: I am using the "Regular grid" layout for my present windows

In general, please do not hook on "maybe remotely related" bugs - rather file a new one.

- bug #288530?
- What kwin version?
- do you click the desktop or some window on it?
- do you use present windows to layout windows for the effect?

@Björn, I can actually no longer reproduce this one - implicitly fixed with bug #327539 ?
Comment 4 Daniel Boff 2014-06-12 20:17:32 UTC
 - Yes, it seems to be a duplicate of bug #288530 and bug #327539

- kwin -v:
    Qt: 4.8.6
    KDE: 4.13.2
    KWin: 4.11.10

- I usually click on the desktop, but it also happens when pressing ESC or clicking a window

- Yes, I use present windows to layout windows for the effect

Do you need any additional infos?

This issue report is quite old. Can you please confirm, that it still persists with KDE 5.23?
