Description Stoian Ivanov 2012-02-07 10:20:30 UTC
Version: 4.8.0 (using KDE 4.8.0)
OS: Linux

Linux skype cleint can be configured to open "minimized window" on new chat message. This was working fine prior 4.8 update. Now the windows are opened but not minimized. Focus is not stolen but it is very, very annoying. couldn't figure a way to "solve" the problem using windows behavior setup: temporary forcing to minimized does not solve the problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Use KDE 4.8
2.Setup skype to open minimized window on new chat
3.Receive a chat message

Actual Results:
A chat windows is displayed non focused but visible somewhere on the screen

Expected Results:
A chat windows is displayed on taskbar minimized

no idea what skype does there, but "kstart --iconify xterm" still launches a minimized xterm here, confirmed?

-> Did you possibly setup a window rule that breaks this?

If you played with the rules "apply initially" is the correct value for minimized to "yes" to get what you want - but please confirm that the kstart parameter doesn't work either and that it's also an issue after removing all skype related window rules (also watch blind ones, ie. matching all windows)

sdr@hristo ~ $ kstart --iconify xterm
kstart(17167) main: Omitting both --window and --windowclass arguments is not recommended

starting Xterm this way mimics icq windows problems. No rules are/were specified. Option "apply initially" was the firs to test. It didn't help.

ok, please attach ~/.kde/share/config/kwinrc (it's the window manager configuration)
did you compile KDE yourself or is this (what?) distribution?

/home/sdr/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc

This is standard Gentoo KDE:
sdr@hristo ~ $ equery uses kwin
[ Legend : U - final flag setting for installation]
[ : I - package is installed with flag ]
[ Colors : set, unset ]
 * Found these USE flags for kde-base/kwin-4.8.0:
 U I
 - - debug : Enable extra debug codepaths, like asserts and extra output. If you want to get meaningful backtraces see http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/qa/backtraces.xml
 - - gles : Enable support for GLES.
+ + opengl : Adds support for OpenGL (3D graphics)
+ + xinerama : Add support for the xinerama X11 extension, which is mandatory if you work in multiple monitors setup

Errrm... ok - sorry.
I can actually reproduce it with 4.8 (must have accidentally tested master where this is not an issue)

Possible candidates: updateRules() conflict or tabbing (even if not supported ...) so it will be fixed in 4.9 - as soon as I switch back to the 4.8 branch, i'll have a look what unminimizes the window
Comment 8 Thomas Lübking 2012-02-12 08:30:40 UTC
meehhh - I probably did not (forgot that Arch had an update and i'm currently again on vanilla 4.8.0)
I'll still have to test, but am quite sure this is the same issue, thus fixed in 4.8.1

Sorry for the trouble.

Not really, I broke it in the first place :-P
However i've meanwhile confirmed it's this issue.
